ANAMBRA: PDP SUMMONS SENATOR UBA OVER PARALLEL PRIMARY ELECTION

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has summoned a serving senator, Andy Uba, to appear before a disciplinary panel. Senator will be joined by his brother Chris and three other party leaders in Anambra, Ejike Oguebego, Benji Udeozor, and Tonia Nwankwu.

The five Anambra indigenes have to appear before the National Working Committee (NWC) for a preliminary hearing at the PDP National Secretariat at Wuse Zone 5, Abuja on Wednesday, August 28, at 10 am "to show cause why disciplinary action should not be taken against them."

The summons followed the conduct of two parallel party primaries held to elect a candidate for November 16 election governorship election in Anambra.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had recognised the faction chaired by Ejike Oguebeogu and attended its primaries, where Mr. Uba was elected as its governorship candidate. However, the party officials attended the Ken Emeakayi faction primaries which elected Mr. Tony Nwoye as the party's candidate. The PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, stated on Monday:

"Go and tell the world that Tony Nwoye is the winner and the candidate of the PDP in the November 16 governorship election."

The PDP acting national publicity secretary of, Tony Okeke, on Tuesday issued in statement in which that party strongly condemned the parallel primary, and said that

"the only Governorship Primary election recognized by the Party was the Primary election conducted by the Electoral Panel under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema which was appointed by the Party." The organization of another Primary election other than the one referred to above is a clear breach of our party's constitution and is therefore totally unacceptable and cannot be condoned."

The statement further said the NWC called on the Inspector General of Police to

"forthwith commence investigations into the illegal procurement of sensitive party materials for the illegal governorship primary election by persons who paraded themselves as working for the PDP".

It will be reminded that the parallel primaries took place on 24 August 2013.
