ARMED ROBBERS MURDER 15-YEAR-OLD BOY

A gang of suspected armed robbers in the early hours of Sunday shot and killed a 15-year-old boy at Gandi village in Rabah Local government of Sokoto State.

The hoodlums attacked the residence of a business tycoon, Alhaji Yawale Gandi at around 3.00am on Sunday, where the boy was killed.

The suspects, who were said to have carted away undisclosed amount of money, also injured a 20-year-old man, who was treated and discharged from the Gandi Primary Health Centre.

The businessman, Gandi, declined comment on the incident but thanked God for sparing his life. "I will not comment on this incident, but I will only thank God," he said.

The spokesman of the state police command, DSP Al-Mustapha Sani, confirmed the incident in Sokoto on Monday, saying investigations had since commenced. "We are suspecting that the hoodlums came from the neighbouring Zamfara, so, we are collaborating with the Zamfara police command to trail the men of the underworld with a view to arresting them," he said.

The Chairman of the local council, Alhaji Zayyanu Bello said on Monday that the council had held a security meeting on the incident and urged the police to ensure that the robbers were arrested. "We have just finished an emergency security meeting sequel to the incident and we have made it clear to the police that the robbers must be apprehended.

"We were told that the hoodlums stormed the area in a vehicle and six motorcycles; we commend the security agencies, and we have made it clear to them that more should be done to secure the lives and property of the residents. "We will also intensify our logistics support to them, while more police outposts would soon be established across the council areas," the chairman said.
